Snowshoes and Smelt
This past weekend I went snowshoeing and smelting in Maine. Not the metal melting kind of smelting, but the ice fishing kind. Note: We caught zero smelt(s).
Before we went on our smelting adventure, we decided to take Maisie out for a quick snowshoe/frolic in an open field. Clearly, Maisie had a horrible time. After zooming around the open field like a dog possessed for a good 15 minutes, Maisie decided it was time for her to burrow face first into the snow.
As I (recently) learned, smelt are a small fish that you can catch in the winter time. We didn't catch anything and mostly just stood around in our tiny hut for the 30 minutes, but I can at least say I've gone ice fishing. I can also say I've touched a blood worm, which is like a normal earth worm, except horrifying.
We'll have to read up on smelting techniques between now and next year. I don't want to catch zero fish two years in a row!
